A new blog feature, Random consigning thoughts by Patricia.
Until I became the manager of Oncore, I did not know/understand/experience consigning!
Oncore was a spur of the moment decision for me.
I was offered to run the shop. I have a very strong faith & when I was asked, I had a feeling that this would take me places I have never been so I said YES! Then because I was the only one that knew computers, I began to research. I was so fortunate to come upon www.TGTBT.com and Kate Holmes... no, not Katie Holmes of Tom Cruise fame, but the real Kate, the guru of all things resale. I feel so blessed to have somehow stumbled upon TGTBT and then www.Howtoconsign.com as well.
I digress. I love all things about my job, I had NO experience whatsoever with consigning, resale, websites, blogs or management. I only visited two consignment shops in my life. I never bought or consigned a thing. All I have learned has been completely hands on. I remember being scared to death my first day on the "job" as the manager of a shop in an industry I knew nothing about. I guess the best way to learn is to be completely thrown into it. Hindsight, this was the best way to learn.
This is the most difficult and most rewarding job (aside from when I was a personal nanny) I ever had
I love going to work each day. I love my customers, my consignors and the friends I have made in them. I Love when a new consignor comes in, I love when a hesitant consignor sells her items. I love pricing and arranging and rearranging and marking down the items. I love selling all great cute things we get in. I love giving an excited consignor her money for things she does not even remember bringing in and things that she is sure she will never miss. I love the stories... oh the stories, the stories about what the customer plans to do with the goodies she buys at Oncore and the stories about her life, her kids, her dreams, her goals, what makes her happy... sad!
I love the day my mom became my boss! I Love that I get to work with my mom each day. She is such a blessing in my life and everything I learned, I learned from my mom.
My goal is to make Oncore the best it can be in 2008!
I look forward to writing more random consigning thoughts as they arise!
